PCS Proud Statement on outgoing National President's remarks at HMRC Conference

No LGBT without the T. Reject Trans+ exclusion in PCS.

On the day that Group Delegate Conferences start for most of our union, PCS Proud is concerned to hear reports of our outgoing National President referring to the “LGB Community” in meetings.

In line with conference policy and PCS Supplementary Rule 5.21, PCS recognises the LGBT+ community and PCS Proud rejects the use of any terminology that erases any part of our community. Our Trans+, Nonbinary and Intersex members are deserving of respect and dignity within our trade union and in wider society. To erase them in common parlance is the height of disrespect and we would encourage anyone, lay representatives or full time officials, to reflect on this and refer to the community in a way that is representative of the safe and inclusive environment that we should be fostering as a union.

Let us be clear, Trans+, nonbinary and intersex people have been a part of our community for a long time. We have no intention of allowing them to be erased in such a way.
